Frequently Asked Questions
Your ticket may not be processed yet. Until the law enforcement agency files the ticket with the Court, we will not have information about your ticket and you will not be able to take care of your ticket with our online Traffic System. Some agencies can take longer to file their tickets, as allowed by law.
Once received from law enforcement, it can take up to 30 days to review and enter your ticket and mail a courtesy notice to you. Use one of the following options when attempting to follow up on a ticket:
- Go to the Court's public case search Portal.
- Select Make Payments Box on the Portal Welcome Page
- Select Search Type: Select either Pary Name or Summons # (ticket number)
- Party Name Search Requirement – Last, First and Date of Birth
- Summons # Requirement (this is your ticket number) - Letter(s) & Digits (i.e. RD55555, P888888)
- Email or call the Court to check the status of your ticket. Provide your name and ticket number.
If you do not receive a courtesy notice, you must still take action on your ticket by the due date given. The courtesy notice is not required by law but is mailed as a service of the Court to provide you with information to help you with your ticket. Your courtesy notice is created when the ticket information is entered in the Superior Court of Santa Cruz’s case management system and is mailed to the address as listed on your ticket.
Your courtesy notice will tell you the following:
- Amount of your fine including penalty assessment and fees
- Amount due for traffic school if you are eligible to attend
- Amount due for correctable violation
- Options for entering a not guilty plea to have a court trial or trial by written declaration
- Options for requesting an arraignment hearing
If the address on your ticket is not correct, you must check the status of your ticket by searching the public case search Portal or by emailing the court. Not receiving a notice does not relieve you of responsibility to resolve your ticket.
Parking tickets are not handled by the Traffic Division. These are handled exclusively by each law enforcement agency. For information about parking tickets, please contact the agency who issued the parking ticket.
Although parking tickets are not handled by the Traffic Division, you can appeal the decision of your parking ticket with the Superior Court of Santa Cruz Traffic Division. For more information about this process, email the traffic division or reach out to the Santa Cruz County Law Library for a packet. The form (SUPTMV 041) to file a parking appeal can be found on the Local Forms page on the court’s website.
Q: Other matters not handled by the Traffic Division
More serious violations such as a Driving Under the Influence (DUI), hit and run and driving on a suspended license because of a DUI are criminal matters and are handled in the Court’s Criminal Division (link?).
I tried my best to describe the changes/additions. If you have any questions, please let me know. I am also happy to meet to review these requested changes.
