Cookie Court

The Santa Cruz Superior Court actively engages in supporting local schools by hosting educational programs aimed at introducing youth to trial law. Through partnerships with the Santa Cruz County Trial Lawyers Association and the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, we are dedicated to enriching the education and experiences of our community's young learners.

One such program, the Elementary Law Program (known as "Cookie Court"), provides a unique opportunity for local 5th graders to participate in a trial at the courthouse with the guidance of volunteer trial attorneys and teachers. In this interactive experience, students take on various roles within a criminal trial scenario, representing "Danny Defendant" and embodying key figures such as the judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, clerk, and bailiff. Through Cookie Court, our youth gain firsthand exposure to the workings of the justice system, effectively bringing their 5th-grade civics curriculum to life.
